The City University of New York Institute for Software Design and Development (CISDD) received a NYSTAR Technology Transfer Incentive Program grant to work with several New York City-based early stage software companies to develop and/or improve their product lines. The specific goal of each software development project was the development and integration of linear regression, cluster analysis and data visualization modules into existing products.

CISDD worked with Syllogy to integrate the linear regression, cluster analysis and data visualization modules into a software system that allows users to specify complex selection and segmentation rules to large databases, primarily for marketing applications.

Umbanet is developing security architecture to allow secure transactions via existing email software. The company credits its cooperation with CISDD for success in a 2002 Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Advanced Technology Program (ATP) competition. The target application of the $2 million grant was data exchange during clinical drug trials. Umbanet's partner in the effort was CISDD.
