CUNY Software Team Completes First Of Six Innovative Industry Projects
3/23/2006
NEW YORK, N.Y. (PRWEB)---The CUNY Institute for Software Design and Development (CISDD) announced the completion of the first of six collaborative R&D projects pairing CUNY faculty and graduate students with private sector firms to develop advanced software technologies. Dr. Kent D. Boklan, a faculty member in Computer Science at Queens College, has finished work on a project with New York-based software firm, qbt Systems, Inc., which has since been acquired by Corillian Corporation, a market leader of online banking and anti-fraud solutions for the financial services industry.
"qbt Systems, now Corillian, has had a long relationship with CISDD in collaborative development efforts," said Guido Belcic, vice president of development for Corillian's Community Banking Solutions. "CISDD Ph.D. candidates placed on development teams with staff engineers gain invaluable experience developing commercial software, where they can bring academic theory into practice under the tutelage of professional software engineers. Our engineers not only benefit from the fresh perspective the interns bring, but they also enjoy their roles as mentors, which leads to a healthy exchange of ideas. There is also the added benefit of having access to experts in the field of Computer Science, such as Kent Boklan, that CISDD makes available. I look forward to working with CISDD on future projects."
Dr. Kent Boklan is a cryptographer and a mathematician who previously worked for the National Security Agency. He designed his first public key cryptosystem in 1988. Dr. Boklan received his SB from MIT and PhD from the University of Michigan, and has published more than twenty research papers in cryptography and cryptanalysis.
In 2004, CISDD was awarded a two-year $600,000 National Science Foundation Partnerships for Innovation grant. This grant provides initial funding for six collaborative projects and for joint faculty-industry meetings in the areas of computer security, imaging and visualization, gaming technology, and software engineering.
About CISDD:
